Wonderful book! It is simply the lyrics to “Coat of Many Colors” put together with illustration from the movie. The illustrations are wonderful. I gave this to my niece and nephew for Christmas and they enjoyed it.

I am hoping that they will get many, many years of enjoyment from the book. Most importantly, I hope they are able to learn a wonderful life lesson from the moral of the book. Dolly is amazing and her story is too.

Winter is coming to Tennessee and there’s no money to buy a new coat, so a little girl’s mama sews one for her out of rags. The little girl wears it to school proudly, and when the other children laugh, she gives them a quick lesson about what it means to be rich. Judith Sutton’s beautiful paintings bring one of Dolly Parton’s best-loved songs to life. “The heartfelt verses are imbued with the same genuine, infectiously likeable spirit Parton herself projects.”‘Publishers Weekly.

I love Dolly Parton and everything about her! I love her storybook. Great pictures too! It’s hard not to sing it as you read it! My kids now love the song too and request it in the car!

My kids grew up listening to Dolly, and we’ve used her songs in many ways, the coat of many colors backs up the bible story, Jolene is my second daughters middle name, and when my youngest daughter couldn’t get out of bed in the morning, we would crank up “Romeo” and let her wake up to Dolly every morning!!!! Who wouldn’t want to wake up to “Why’d ‘ya come in here lookin’ like that”???? !!!!!!!! I’ve never met Dolly, but I’d love to.

These books that I bought are for my 12 grandchildren!!!! I bought 5-one for each family, and my grandchildren should learn something from them!!!!!

Dolly Parton lends the lyrics of her classic song “Coat of Many Colors” to this heartfelt picture book for young readers.Country music legend Dolly Parton’s rural upbringing in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee provides the backdrop for this special picture book.

Using lyrics from her classic song “Coat of Many Colors,” the book tells the story of a young girl in need of a warm winter coat. When her mother sews her a coat made of rags, the girl is mocked by classmates for being poor.

But Parton’s trademark positivity carries through to the end as the girl realizes that her coat was made with love “in every stitch.” Beautiful illustrations pair with Parton’s poetic lyrics in this heartfelt picture book sure to speak to all young readers.

Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors/Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love (2 Film Collection)

PreS-Gr 2—Country singer/songwriter Parton has, with illustrator Boynton-Hughes, turned her famous song “Coat of Many Colors” into a delightful and evocative picture book. Dolly grew up in rural Tennessee, where love was plentiful but money was scarce. Her mother was given a box of fabric scraps, but with winter coming, Dolly needed a coat. So as the song relates, Dolly’s mother pieced together the scraps and made her daughter a “coat of many colors.” As she sewed, she told Dolly the Bible story of Joseph’s coat of many colors. Of course, Dolly’s schoolmates didn’t see her coat as special, and they laughed and made fun of her. Parton tells readers that the hurt did not go away until, as an adult, she sat down and wrote this song. This title reminds children that bullying hurts and doesn’t help anyone. Boynton-Hughes presents Dolly as a blonde, curly-haired moppet, so happy to be wearing her multihued coat. The bright fall colors give the book vibrancy. The illustrations also depict the love that was abundant in the Parton family. VERDICT A significant addition to both school and public libraries.—Elaine Lesh Morgan, formerly at Multnomah County Library, Portland, OR

It’s such a sweet, timeless story of love and acceptance. The illustrations are beautiful with many precious details. I can’t wait to share it with my grandchildren!

Illustrations could have been much better. The story is great, but could have added more info about the story of Joseph as well. Love the movie!

I bought two. The story read exactly like the song so it was a bit dull. One of the books was written in which I didn’t even think to look for such a sentiment from grandmother to granddaughter, and was very embarrassed when my granddaughter told me “I” had written birthday wishes to the wrong granddaughter!

I’m one of those weird Southerners who doesn’t listen to country music, so though I knew about Dolly Parton I didn’t know her music. One day this book was displayed at the library, so I picked it up to take a peek.

What a beautiful story and lovely pictures! I ordered a copy of my own and borrowed the movie by the same name. It was wonderful too! I can’t say I’ve become a huge Parton fan since I still don’t listen to country music, but I recommend this book and the movie.
