The bowhead whale is common in the Arctic. The bowhead whales are also one of the largest species of whale in terms of weight. Only the blue whale is heavier than the bowhead whale. A bowhead whale is usually black in color and measures 15 to 18 months in length. A distinct feature of bowhead whale is that it has baleen plates nested of teeth that it uses for feeding.
